Square des Bénédictins
|
This square is situated next to the Cathédrale Saint-Bénigne and is all that remains of the extensive gardens once forming part of the former abbey of Saint- Bénigne, founded in the 6C. The church and the monastic buildings – of which the abbey church and the old cellar still survive – formed the heart of a vast enclosure encompassing a cloister garden, an orchard and a kitchen garden. The well is all that remains of this garden today. The square was rearranged in 1977 and visitors can now relax under the shade of chestnuts, limes, maples, birches and poplars.
Vegetation: trees.
Features: numerous benches.
