Dukes of Burgundy Wine Presses
Prestigious symbols of the wine tradition in Chenôve and in all Burgundy, the wine presses have a double birth certificate. The first mention of a ducal estate in Chenove dates back to 1228.
The first wine presses are reported to have been made in 1238 under the regency of Alix de Vergy, Duchess of Burgundy, for her son Eudes IV.
The huge size of the wine presses is a witness of the importance enjoyed once by the vineyards of Chenôve. Indeed, under a so-called cathedral roof frame (18m roofing), they pressed up to 100 casks of grapes per day i.e. about 23, 000 litres of wine. The smaller of the two presses allowed to process at each pressing 40 casks (12 tons of grapes) for a production of 9,000 litres of juice.
