 Musée de la Vie Bourguignonne
|
The Musée de la Vie Bourguignonne, situated in the cloister of the former Bernardine convent, houses a collection of both rural and urban ethnography (country costumes, furniture, etc., everyday life in Dijon from the 18C to the 20C).
The Museum, inaugurated in 1982, is on three floors:
- Ground floor: rural and Burgundian ethnographical heritage at the end of the 19C.
- First floor: daily life in Dijon from the end of the 18C to the Second World War (reconstruction of 10 trades).
- Second floor: a gallery devoted to characteristics of Burgundian life plus a reading room and an audiovisual room.
Public service: Guided visits, workshops and numerous teaching aids: documents (play-books, visit data sheets, etc.) and educational packs distributed by the Regional Educational Document Centre on such subjects as bread, childhood, stone cutting, etc. A mobile exhibition entitled “Pain bis, pain blanc” (Brown bread, white bread) can be loaned from the Museum free of charge.
Museum shop: Bookshop (books for the young, exhibition catalogues, etc.), posters, post cards, maps, pottery and toys.
Library and information centre: open to all requiring specific information on subjects covered by our collections (19C rural Burgundy, trades and industries in Dijon and the Côte-d’Or department, traditional crafts, etc.).
The document resources (works, periodicals, dossiers, photographs, etc.) may be consulted on site only and are shared with the Musée d’Art Sacré (Museum of Sacred Art).
Visits for adults: Discovery and special-interest visits: ages of life (traditions and rites), everyday life, old Dijon trades and crafts, etc. Information and registration at the Museum.
Visits for children: special-interest visits: ages of life (traditions and rites), everyday life, old Dijon trades and crafts, etc.
Visit+workshop: visit of part of the Museum plus a chance to participate in a workshop on such subjects as the traditional school, childhood, tales and legends, etc.
Workshops (children 8-12 years, Wednesdays 2 to 3.30pm or 3.30 to 5pm): discovering the Museum collections and making objects based on these collections. Principal subjects: modelling, painting on wood, making souvenir glass mounts, tour of the town in search of shop signs, etc.
Closed on Tuesdays.
Closed on Jaunary 1st, May 1st and 8th, July 14th, November 1st and 11th, December 25th.
