Jardin des Sciences - Jardin Botanique, Museum, Planetarium )
|
The different sections of the Jardin des Sciences de l’Arquebuse offer an array of attractions: permanent exhibition, temporary exhibitions focusing on subjects of particular interest, presentation of the Burgundian flora in all its diversity in the botanical garden.
The Pavillon de l'Arquebuse, a historical building dating from the 18C, stores, exhibits and promotes an astonishing scientific legacy in the different spheres of the natural sciences: zoology, geology, mineralogy, entomology, etc.
A part of this heritage, constantly enriched and studied by scientists, is specially presented so as to explain the sciences governing nature. Around the central theme of “The Animal World: Mirror of the Environment”, the Museum takes visitors on a journey to the heart of natural history by means of interactive and educational display windows. Aesthetic appeal ranks high among the Museum’s priorities.
With the same concern to showcase its collections, the more recent Pavillon du Raines is specifically dedicated to temporary exhibitions on subjects of popular appeal. Certain areas deal with matters of current scientific interest and with environmental issues. It also contains a weather station.
The Jardin Botanique (Botanical Garden) is an integral part of the Museum, fitting in perfectly with its cultural objectives and displaying the beauty and secrets of the flora.
The Planetarium offers a wide array of activities: a special “introduction to astronomy” show, a permanent exhibition, lectures, scientific films followed up by debates, and videoconferences. The Planetarium is also equipped with an experiment and multimedia room specially designed to accommodate school groups..
